BBI completed a multi-phase renovation of more than 13,000 SF within the Alachua County Administration Building, transforming fragmented office space into a more efficient, functional environment for the Alachua County Tax Collector’s Office and other County departments.
The project required careful phasing, temporary staff relocations, and close coordination with multiple user groups to maintain uninterrupted public services and government operations throughout construction.
THE CHALLENGE
Improving functionality while keeping government services operational.
Alachua County needed to renovate and reconfigure existing administrative space to better support the Tax Collector’s Office and improve service delivery to the public.
The project involved significant demolition and reconstruction to consolidate employees who had previously been dispersed throughout multiple locations while creating a more efficient and functional workplace.
Complicating the effort, portions of the building remained occupied throughout construction and multiple County departments, including the County Commission, County Manager’s Office, Public Information Office, County Attorney’s Office, and Tourism Department, were directly impacted by the phased renovation strategy.
Maintaining uninterrupted public access and government operations was critical throughout the project.
THE BBI APPROACH
Phased construction built around uninterrupted public service.
BBI developed a phased execution plan that allowed County operations to continue while renovation activities progressed throughout the facility.
A temporary swing space was created to accommodate staff during construction, allowing departments to remain operational while work advanced through successive phases. Following project completion, the temporary space was converted into permanent office space for the County’s Tourism Department, maximizing long-term value for the owner.
BBI coordinated:
- Phased occupied renovations
- Temporary employee relocation
- Public access management
- Stakeholder communication
- Storefront replacement
- Doors and hardware upgrades
- Flooring and ceiling replacement
- Interior finishes and painting
- Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing upgrades
- Coordination with multiple county departments
Close communication with County leadership and facility representatives helped ensure construction activities remained aligned with operational priorities and public service needs.
PROJECT OUTCOMES
A more efficient workplace delivered without disrupting government operations.
BBI successfully transformed aging administrative space into a modernized environment that improved functionality, consolidated staff, and enhanced service delivery for both employees and the public.
Through disciplined phasing, proactive communication, and operationally focused planning, the project maintained continuous government operations while delivering long-term improvements to one of Alachua County’s key public service facilities.
