BBI Construction

City of Gainesville Public Works Administration Building

City of Gainesville · Gainesville, FL

Delivering resilient municipal infrastructure designed for continuity and emergency readiness.

BBI completed the design-build delivery of a hurricane-hardened, LEED Silver certified administrative facility for the City of Gainesville Public Works Department, supporting critical municipal operations and multiple public service departments within a centralized operations environment.

The project required careful coordination of resilient building systems, emergency power infrastructure, active municipal operations, and complex site logistics within a heavily traveled public corridor.

THE CHALLENGE

Constructing resilient municipal infrastructure within an active operational environment.

The City of Gainesville needed a new administrative facility capable of supporting multiple Public Works departments while improving operational coordination, long-term resiliency, and continuity of municipal services.

The project brought together General Services, Solid Waste, Public Works, and Traffic Management operations within a single facility designed to support communication, accessibility, and operational efficiency.

Located within an active municipal compound along a heavily traveled roadway, the project required careful coordination around ongoing operations, site access, underground utility infrastructure, traffic control, and construction logistics.

The City also established aggressive resiliency and sustainability goals, requiring integration of hurricane-resistant construction, emergency power systems, high-performance building infrastructure, and LEED-certified design elements.

THE BBI APPROACH

Design-build coordination focused on resiliency, operational continuity, and long-term performance.

Through the design-build process, BBI coordinated closely with the City and design team to align constructability, infrastructure planning, scheduling, and operational requirements throughout the project lifecycle.

BBI coordinated:

  • Resilient building system integration
  • Emergency power infrastructure
  • Utility and infrastructure sequencing
  • Active municipal operations coordination
  • Traffic management and public access
  • Site logistics planning
  • Multi-department stakeholder coordination
  • Leed certification requirements
  • Phased site and infrastructure activities

The facility incorporated concrete tilt-wall construction, hollow-core structural systems, impact-resistant glazing, emergency power systems, building automation controls, telecommunications infrastructure, audio/visual systems, and sustainable site improvements designed to support long-term operational reliability.

PROJECT OUTCOMES

A resilient operations facility designed to support critical municipal services.

BBI successfully delivered a modernized, hurricane-hardened facility that improved operational coordination, resiliency, and long-term functionality for the City of Gainesville Public Works Department.

Through integrated planning, disciplined execution, and infrastructure coordination, the project delivered a durable municipal operations environment capable of supporting essential public services while achieving LEED Silver Certification for environmental performance and sustainability.
