BBI completed the renovation of two University of Florida technology classrooms in Turlington Hall and Larsen Hall, transforming traditional learning spaces into technology-enabled teaching environments designed for collaboration, flexibility, and modern instruction.

Delivered in just 40 days during the University’s limited summer construction window, the project required accelerated execution, extended work hours, and close coordination with University stakeholders to ensure the classrooms were fully operational before students returned for the fall semester.

THE CHALLENGE

Delivering complex technology-focused renovations within a limited summer window.

The University of Florida sought to modernize existing classroom spaces to better support technology-driven instruction, collaborative learning, and evolving educational needs.

The project required complete demolition and reconstruction of both classroom environments, including new framing, drywall, ceilings, flooring, ductwork, electrical systems, and technology infrastructure.

In addition to the physical renovation, the classrooms were redesigned to support flexible layouts and advanced audiovisual capabilities, including distributed displays, projection systems, and collaborative learning technology.

The biggest challenge was the schedule. Construction had to be completed during summer break and fully operational before students returned for the fall semester, leaving only a narrow window for demolition, reconstruction, testing, commissioning, and technology integration.

The team coordinated closely with University stakeholders, the design team, technology vendors, and contractors working in adjacent spaces to maintain alignment and avoid conflicts during construction.
